Virat Kohli’s Historic Milestone

Representing Delhi against Andhra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Virat Kohli stepped onto the Vijay Hazare stage for the first time in 15 years. Needing only one run to reach the 16,000-run mark in List A cricket, he achieved the feat on the very first ball of his innings.

Kohli’s achievement is unprecedented because of his speed. He reached the milestone in just 330 innings, shattering the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who took 391 innings. Since crossing the 10,000-run mark, Kohli has been the fastest man to reach every subsequent 1,000-run block.

Comparison: Fastest to 16,000 Runs

Kohli is now the ninth player in history to reach this figure, but he sits comfortably at the top in terms of efficiency.

With this performance, Kohli solidifies his spot as the second-highest Indian run-scorer in List A history. The current standings are:

  • Sachin Tendulkar: 21,999 runs
  • Virat Kohli: 16,052* runs
  • Sourav Ganguly: 15,622 runs
  • Rahul Dravid: 15,271 runs
  • Rohit Sharma: 13,517* runs
Rohit Sharma’s Record Century

While Kohli was making history in Bengaluru, Rohit Sharma was putting on a clinic in Jaipur. Playing for Mumbai against Sikkim, Rohit smashed a 62-ball century, eventually finishing with 155 off 94 balls. His innings included 18 fours and 9 sixes.

This knock allowed Rohit to match David Warner’s record for the most 150-plus scores in List A cricket (nine). At 38 years old, he also became the second-oldest centurion in the history of the tournament.

Road to the 2027 World Cup

Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from T20Is and Tests, focusing exclusively on the 50-over format. Their return to domestic cricket is a strategic move to stay match-fit for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Following their strong performances against South Africa and Australia, their current form suggests they remain the backbone of India’s white-ball squad.

Fans can look forward to seeing both stars in action during the home ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11. For more official updates and schedules, visit the Official BCCI Website.
